simple step # 10
Here’s an odd instruction for you – fire yourself. Just hang in here with me while I explain. I’m confident you’ll agree with my unconventional approach as you begin to see how this will most certainly simplify your life.
We are a resourceful people. This often times complicates our lives. How? Yes, that’s exactly it, with the question how. It’s common for us to ask God the question what. We ask what should we do when faced with a difficult decision or what we should spend our time on or what should we do to speak the truth into someone’s life. God answers our what questions. We should ask them often.
However, there is one question we don’t ask Him near as often as the what question – the how question. Don’t get me wrong, we ask how, but we don’t direct that question appropriately. This is where we miss an opportunity to simplify our lives. God instructs us on the what but he also wants us to allow him to instruct us on the how. The Lord knows how. It’s not our job to figure out how to accomplish His will. It is only up to us to carry out His instructions. He will guide us step by step if we’ll allow it.
“..the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the date of judgement..” (2 Peter 2:9)
Here’s your challenge this week:
This week when you are tempted to take responsibility of the how, resist. Remember to look to God no only for the what, but also the how. Know this – we are not responsible for the how. When we determine the how, it doesn’t work out well for us. Immediately fire yourself from that responsibility and that, my friend, will simplify your life.
